Marketing:

Do you like the product you are selling?

    • There are many people out there that feel the same way you do, so sell to them

    • Find out just who and where they are and sell to them

    • Do you want to put yourself among the top 1% of all Internet marketers?

    • Then cater to the people most likely to buy your products!

Keep in mind that sometimes it works out that the scarcer the potential buyers the possible markup of your potential profits.

This type of marketing focus is also called demographic or niche marketing.

It is important to have an effective marketing mix

To find success you have to actively use many marketing strategies
  • e-mail,
  • banner advertising,
  • reciprocal linking,
  • search engines
  • anything else that can be done to drive traffic to your sites.

If you are actively marketing you will see the results in traffic to your site

It can take time and money to get your marketing campaign up and working for you.

The more money you spend the more likely your site will have more traffic.

But for those others who don’t have a lot of money to spend there are plenty of marketing strategies you can get involved in.

All you need do is give dedicate time to finding the right ones for your site

Knowledge is power:

So learn what to do and how to implement those strategies and techniques.

It might be best if you can do one at a time, until you get each one working for you, then you move on to the next one.

This also gives you a chance to evaluate each different strategy

Is it actually working for me, or am I just putting in time and money to no advantage?
  • This is a great site for news and articles that will be helpful as you build your site and then get marketing and traffic for it.

Promotion:

Are you enticing your buyers and customers to buy from you

Do they go to your competitors and then return to buy from you.?

Why is that?

Well, all I can say is that you have enticed them with your offer and lead them easily to BUY from you, and return often to see what else they can get.

Having a promotion gives your customers reasons to come back to your website, to see what else you can entice them to buy.

Sending an e-mail to your customers will promote these “specials” is one way to “Promote” your products.

Any advertising you do will also be a great way to promote your site and product

You can even run special ads just for your “promotion”.

You should have at least one promotion per month  -- ideally, weekly if possible.

This way, you will stay fresh in the minds of your visitors

Be smart and get the word out.

A promotion is useless if no one knows about it

So get out there and Advertise!

Traffic:

One way to get more traffic to your website is SEARCH ENGINE placement

Most web users find products or information by using the popular search engines.

So be determined and find a way to get your site listed prominently (within the top 30 of the search results) on a few of the good ones, which will reciprocate with others that are connected.

This strategy will create a huge increase in traffic to your site

The policy, “more visitors should result in more sales” is what you are looking to create.

Getting listed is not much of a challenge anyone can do that.

But using your know how and getting listed in the top 10, where millions of people can find you, is the best strategy of all.

There are several techniques for getting the search engines to increase your ranking, and no one is best in all cases, because the "spiders" or "robots" used by each search engine can use different criteria, so it pays to use several different approaches.

The proper choice of keywords is the most important way to be raised in the rankings

Having unique, rather than common use, keywords is a big plus.

The more unique or unusual your keyword is, the higher it will rank, but the downside is that fewer people may be looking for that specialized topic or item.

It is a balancing act, between ultra-unique, and popular.

Search engines distinguish between the singular and the plural versions of a word.

So it is safer and more productive to use the plural versions - if you use the plural version, and a seeker asks for the singular version, you will get a hit, but not vice versa.

Think carefully how people will look for your service or product.

If you offer, "consulting", will a person look for "consultants".  Perhaps you should use both as keywords.

Always put yourself in the other person's shoes, they may not think in the same terms you do, or, as often happens, they may just be casually browsing, and if so, will your site stand out.

If you are using keyword phrases, rather than single keywords, it helps to enclose the phrase in italics.

Otherwise, search engines may focus only on the individual words, rather than the phrase.

This is especially true if one of the words in your phrase is "free" or "website", or "computer", or other generic words.

You could be losing out, if the person focuses on only one word of your phrase.

Once you have your website set up and need to find out how it rates then try this site.  It will analyze and give you back a report as to how well your site is doing with the keywords you choose.

Advertising:

Here are some suggestions to improve your advertising effectiveness.

  • A key to a successful response rate is effective e-mail ads and letters.

  • A major reason for an ad is to pique customer's interest and have them respond.

  • Use short ads that entice and lead the customer to ask for more information.

  • Be wary of time sensitve advertising - your ads may last a long time.

  • Study other headlines to see what grabs your attention.  Learn from them.

  • Use effective keywords in your ads: YOU, MONEY, FREE, BETTER,etc.

  • Don't be satisfied with your first efforts; re-think and re-write headlines.

  • Advertise in websites, e-zines, newsgroups and mailing lists.

  • To help measure ad effectiveness, add a code.

  • Any sales letter should be clear, concise, interesting and stress BENEFITS to the customer.

  • Since customers often don't respond to the initial ad, use follow up reminders a week or two later to highlight other benefits or promotions, and expand the original enticements.

  • This could tip the balance to a sales.

Banners:

Are you prepared to create a Banner that jumps out and grabs the visitor at first glance and convince them to click immediately to that site?

Well, that is what you have to convey

Brand them so they will remember your banner and click-through to your site.

After all, this about branding yourself and creating name recognition for your company

These are two important features in creating banner advertisements:

      1. You need to draw attention to your banner ad.  You can use animation and color to get them to focus on  your ad.

      2. You need to have a catchy headline, something like a bold statement to catch their attention.  If they don’t click through the first time, then at least they will remember your product or service.
It is not recommended to put someone else’s banner ad on top of your HOME page.

It is better to place it at the bottom of your page, so they have to scroll down your site and see what you have to offer before they get to someone elses banner.

There are ways to exchange banners with others, but this may lose customers for your site.

This is usually a free service, gets your banner seen, and hopefully generates traffic to your site.

But since it is an exchange program, it means that their banner will appear on your site, and may lead them away from buying from you.

Another way to get your banner seen is to buy “banner impressions”.

Each time someone shows your banner, it  is called a banner impression.

These are usually sold in large quantities, anywhere from 100 to one million and up.

If you buy a 10,000 impressions, then your banner would be seen 10,000 times on different websites.

This does not mean that your buying 10,000 visitors to your site;  it just means that your banner will appear 10,000 times on other websites.

Hopefully, visitors will click through to your site, and if not this time, then at least they will have heard of you and might click through at another time.

If you are just starting out you might want to invest in 10,000 banner impression at around $.02 per impression and up.

Just remember, the more you buy, the more exposure and potential visitors you will have.

Pay per click” is another way you can advertise your banner.

This means that you only pay for those banner impressions that are actually clicked on by a visitor

These can cost more,  from two or three cents per click through, or in some case, up to $10 per click through

But they do guarantee visitors.

An important  service offered by these banner companies, or “pay-for-click” programs, is that you have an ability to track to see how your banners are doing.

You can calculate the average cost of each visitor

But be sure your profit margins will be greater than the cost and you are not sending away more visitors than come to your site.

Counters:

You can use a COUNTER to show you how many visitors you get to your website in a day.

You can buy a counter for your site, these run either monthly $30, or $50/year, to several hundred dollars a year, depending on the functions given.

You can also get a counter block which shows on your site, or an invisible counter only you can see.

If you are selling on E-bay you can get a Free one if you request it.

Your preferance.

NOTE:  However, that depending on the counter you choose, it may count visits to your site, or how many pages visited.

For example, if a visitor looks at five of your pages, it may show one impression, or five impressions

You should know which, rather than be fooled by inflated numbers.

To find counters go on Google and search there will be many FREE COUNTERS to choose from.

Maintenance:

DAILY:

There are things that have to be done to your site on a daily, weekly and monthly time frame

Your e-mail from visitors need answers to their questions quickly

They are asking these questions from you because they trust you, and the best way to keep that trust is to answer their questions, or tell them you will find out and get back to them.

If you are working with affiliates, then of course you are going to be aware of emails coming in from them, so watch for  “Check your Merchant Status”.

Your merchants and your customers will appreciate your efforts.

If your customers choose to Opt-out from your list, don’t correspond with or question your customer, just take their name of your list.

You never want to be accused of SPAMMING

Those are the kind of complaints you never want to get.

Is you site online and doing what it is supposed to do?

Go on line every day and check out all the browsers, refresh, and be sure things look correct.

If you are paying for click advertising and you find your site is down,  that is money down the drain.

The clicks add up whether your site is up and running or not and the costs are mounting.

Links have a tendency to break.

Check them every day to be sure they are up and running

Your HTML editor is a good place to have these checked out.

Check your statistics every day, until you become so familiar with the trends that you find an easy way to check.

But, until that time, check every day.

If you are working with Affiliates, then be sure to visit the statistics interface for each network and individual affiliate partner, and input your total revenues into Quicken, or other accounting program.

Your program should be able to notify you if certain checks become overdue.

Your personal health should be at the top of this list.

    • Sitting all day will only give you fatigue, strain and a fat bottom

    • Put aside the early morning to get your exercise and play time over before you sit down.

    • Be sure to take regular breaks and stretch, relax and change venues to give your back, eyes and bottom a chance to get back to normal.

WEEKLY:

Add new pages to your site every week to keep it active and interesting to both your customers and also the search engines.

This will encourage your customers to keep coming back

Be sure to publish your site frequently to update the search engines.

Your pay-for-click advertising campaign should have new keywords and keyword phrases

Keep track of these new words and add them to your Overture, Findwhat and other campaigns on a weekly basis.

Time spent doing research keeps your site interesting and you up-to-date on the new things on the market and in the news.

You will find new tools and learn new methods, which will save you time and money later on.

MONTHLY:

If you are publishing your own Newsletter,  you should spend the time and energy to bring interesting notes and information to your customers, to keep them up to date.

They will appreciate this because they might not have the time to do their own research.

This will also give them a reason to return to your website and possibly buy from you again.

Money should be coming in now, and you should take time to add up all your income and make note of your expenses.

This is a good way to track your activity, and the possible changes that have to be made to your site to keep it producing for you and your family.

QUARTERLY:

Start creating a new website.

The business world changes as crisis happen, such as 9/11, the war in Iraq, or even the hurricane seasons, and so on.

Diversification can possibly save the day for you in such times

Hopefully, your diverse businesses will all balance out in the end, some will decrease and others will increase.

So be creative and diversify.

Always keep a lookout for great ideas with profitable market share, and of course more affiliates
opportunities, to gain back-end money.

Launch a new web site at least once a quarter to keep you balanced and active and making a profit in this unstable marketing place we are in today.

An old and true business maxim is that your business is either growing, or it is dying.

 Which would you rather have?
